Introductory comics
This page is for the first comics I drew, which merely introduced things and didn't have much to do with... well, anything. Enjoy!
#1 Wednesday 10-27-04

The commentary:
The first comic! I draw the comics freehand then scan them, as you can no doubt tell from the uh, questionable quality of them (I'm still learning and experimenting but I promise it will get better as my style starts to develop-- really!). Then I use software to color the comics on the computer. This is the result, ta daa! They are humble beginnings, to be sure, but I'm excited anyway! :)
#2 Friday 10-29-04

The commentary:
Comic number two is all in black and white. Or rather, graphite-gray and white. I draw in pencil. I was just about to put the color in when somtething stopped me. What, I'm not sure. The sketchbooky charm of it? A sudden onset of laziness? Small gremlins with guns who are alergic to colors? I may never know. But here it is, in all its sloppy glory. Hey, check out my links and read the first ever No 4th Wall to Break before you complain, he used to do the saaaame thing (no offense to Chris Whettstone, in the offchance you might one day look at this... I looooove your comic!).
#3 Wednesday 11-3-04

The commentary:
This comic is the first Bowl of Serial that pleased me visually. I colored most of it with the computer except for the fourth panel which has a background that was colored in marker. Um, not much more comes to mind at the moment. That book does say "dictionary" on the spine but it didn't survive scanning too well.
#4 Sunday 11-7-04

The commentary:
This comic was the first one featuring the title. I got the idea from an inside joke one of Kori's friends told me about the day after her funeral. Kori was an incredible person, one who none of us who knew her will ever forget. We're still in deep mourning and the sorrow I felt while writing and drawing this comic would be hard to describe. Kori, you see, was supposed to be featured in the comic alive and well-- and was supposed to read it and laughed at at, and tell me what a goof I was... But, I know she would have wanted to be in it, so I added her postmortem. A bit morbid perhaps, but I find so much is morbid to one who has lost someone they were infinitely close to. And sometimes, life is just morbid like that. Life is a lot of things. Including fragile. DRIVE SAFELY. For the love of goodness, if you do nothing else in life, drive safely, because if you don't, perhaps one day it will be you who runs a van into a car and snatches an innocent life out of the lives of those who love him or her. Ok, soapbox over now, this is SUPPOSED to be a funny comic even if I don't always succeed in making it so. Just remember: being the "someone else" that bad things happens to SUX, and you would do well to not tempt fate, or you will be them one day and well, like I said... it sux.
#5 Thursday 11-11-04

The commentary:
You won't understand this much if you don't know what Dungeons and Dragons is, but I put it in here anyway! :) Like I said, it's a comic about me and my friends, and being the geeks that we are we play dungeons and dragons! It's a lot of fun, it's like playing pretend but for adults. teehee. Brendan is the DM, or Dungeon Master, he's the one who invents all the improbable situations that the characters, which would be the rest of us, then react to.
HOLY
CRAP, AN UPDATE!!!!(Random)
Friday, February 18, 2005
Yes, it has been nearly three months to the day since the last update! Aack. But fear not, the hiatus is soon to be over! Kimberleigh (I'm the author ya know) apologizes, but you see I experienced technical difficulties and have simply not been up to keeping the comic going. However, from now on I make a solemn promise that I will be uploading the new comics soon, and that from now on I will update the site at least every two weeks (aiming for every week but not going to make a promise I can't keep). Along with keeping the comics up, I have some plans for the site to make it spiffier. ^_^ We'll see how things go. But I've got to do well in my classes, and this semester is whooping my butt (University life is not always fun and games, especially when you're in mourning). So try not to expect too much, and I'll try not to disappoint. Deal? Oh good. ;)
#6 Tuesday March 8 2005

The commentary:
This
was the second comic featuring the dancing monkey, and the one that cemented
him as a permanent character in the comic. He's the perfect comic relief-
he's cute, he's funny, he's sort of random. He still needs a name, that will
be a comic for another time.
I debated coloring
it, but in the end the pencil sketching was too hard to work with... I'd pressed
down too hard to be able to erase clearly, a mistake many beginners (myself
included as you can see) make. I knew coloring it would just make the pencil
marks look worse so I kept it as is. The comic itself... well, I kinda feel
it speaks for itself. ^_^
#13 Saturday June 11, 2005

The commentary:
Yes, I've been feeling a lot of guilt over the lack of updates... it took me almost THREE MONTHS but I've finally made my decision. Despite some personal issues (mostly moving around too much which results in a lack of equipment) and despite my severe artist's block that crops up every now and again (usually when I realize how many things I want to do with the comic that I can't because I'm not at that level of talent yet), I am going to keep going.
And not only that... I'm going to do it. I'm going to have a regular update day. I was terrified to do this previously, because I didn't want to make a promise I couldn't keep. But now, I realize the only way to make sure I do this right is if I make that commitment. So from now on look forward to Bowl of Serial every single Saturday!!! Even if it's just a filler, it'll be here. For real. WHOA. I'm scarin' myself here. ;)
#14 Saturday June 18, 2005

The commentary:
Sorry about this, everyone. I honestly did leave the comic at my mom's. I had to go home for a while to take care of her pets while she is on vacation. And I left several things there, one of them being my sketchbook. But, I promised there'd be something every Saturday, and even if there is just filler that I slap together quickly, by GOLLY there WILL be something! So there, ha! That's me and my cat Jake in the pic.
