The Fangirls
A motely collection of filler art and requests from friends, the title comes from the fact that it was originally going to be a storyline about me and my friends being silly anime fangirls. ^_^ I think I'll leave the filler art up until now where it is, but put all future fillers here. Okay, good plan.
An intro blurb I wrote for this storyline that more or less explains things: Ok, listen close to a few of my friends, you may or may not like this. The Fangirls storyline will not go as planned. To explain for all, I had originally intended to do a story starring me and several of my friends, incorporating several promised elements as well as an inside joke or two. But, I could not write a story that had all those things, so instead, The Fangirls will be a series of one-shot drawings. I promised and I will deliver, but instead of a story about it, it will just be drawings of the promised things, put under the heading "The Fangirls" and then I'll move on to the next story. Which, by the way, isn't written yet, so it'll be interesting to see how many one-shot drawings/comics I can come up with to buy myself time until it's done. ;)

the commentary:
I fully intend to color this, but for now, the black and white version of the Fangirls, number one! There's (left to right) Heather, Alice, myself, and Kelly as anthropomorphed animals (a tiger, a house cat, a sugar glider, and a snowshoe hare, respectively). I was really pleased with this drawing until I took a good look at it and realized how similar the pose and facial expression of Kelly and Alice were. :P Now it bothers me. Why am I less clothed than everyone else? One, it is very difficult to put anything on a sugar glider because of the gliding membrane, and two, it sorta fits, since I'm the little nudist of our group (you don't want to know). Thanks to my artistic friend Emmy for the poncho idea! And although I really didn't get our height ratios exactly right, I really am that much shorter than everybody else, heehee!

The commentary:
You really don't want to know. It's part of an inside joke, one of the promised drawings. My friend Heather, as a skeleton with a butt.
I'm getting better with the tablet, whoohoo! And, my current skill level of skeleton drawing helps to illustrate why I don't draw anatomy all that well. ;) Ever try to draw a skeleton? It's really, really hard. With the exception of the skull, I was actually quite proud of this drawing. Especially since it was made double-hard by being drawn with the tablet.

the
commentary:
Since these artworks are
going under the heading of the Fangirls, I thought I'd display some of my
fan art. This drawing depicts the character Rodney from Carpe
Diem (copywright Graveyard Greg and not me! it's FAN art!). My character,
Sugar, is feeling kind of dismayed to discover that Rodney is homosexual.
Aw, phooey. She was hoping for a date with the very cute, very kind chubby
cheetah. It's okay Sugar, you're from two different comics, it never would
have worked out. I'll draw ya someone else. ;)

The commentary:
I've had a tough week and
I couldn't keep up with the demands of life, so as per usual my poooor widdle
webcomic fell by the wayside. For this week's entry I decided to draw some
"chibi" style characters, just to see if I could do it. And, it
appears that I can, if not insanely well. But that's what practice is for.
^_^
Adventures in Friendship
This is a brief storyline about what life is like for a geeky young woman in college. It's based on myself and my friends.

The Commentary:
Well I finally started the new storyline! It's probably going to go through a lot of visual change as I try to figure out what my drawing style is and how I can draw with the tablet without having it suck too bad (or whether I'll go back to pencil and paper again). But here's the start. Hopefully the characters will NOT look like that for long. I cannot seem to get this darn comic drawn to satisfaction. Sigh.
Yeah, my life really is pretty much like this right now. And do NOT knock Pokemon(tm) until you have tried it; it's a fun game.

The commentary:
If you've never sung with an "air-mic" in your underwear... I'm so sorry. Really I am. It's just fun.
Thanks to my friend Heather for the song, and ten points to YOU if you know it.

The commentary:
Yay I did get a chance to do a comic this week despite finals. ^_^ I'm sorry the background isn't colored, I'm still such a newbie with backgrounds and, as you can tell, also with coloring.
This really is true. I have no idea what some guys find attractive about a short and sort of chubby girl, but I find that often when I try to make a male friend at first he's not sure what I want. *shrug* That's okay, it's an ego boost AND it made a cute comic. Plus I can't complain much, women can be just as confusing, and of course my male friends are all worth their weight in jewel-encrusted gold. No I didn't just say that because some of them read this, tsk tsk give me some credit. :P

The Commentary:
No, I didn't change the update day to Tuesday. Actually, I'm thinking of making it TWO days a week again soon (but I'm not sure yet so don't get to excited)! But, I got caught up with some things, so I'm sorry it's late. I'll be back to schedule for next week's for sure.
The friendship one-shots are going to be coming to a much more abrupt halt than planned. I'd actually planned on making this a story. But then I got to writing and came up with cute one-shots again instead... however, I have a great idea now for my next actual, honest-to-goodness storyline, and so as soon as these are through (I'm going to try to finish it up by next week's) I'm going to get the new one going, and it's going to be COOL. Stay tuned!
Filler Art Goes Here!
Because I didn't want to make another archive page just for the extras, and I won't unless there are so many it becomes necessary. Filler/Extras/Non-Story comics can all be found here.

The commentary:
Well, this month might end up being full of fillers, because I have decided to participate in National Novel Writing Month, so I have 50,000 words to write by the 30th. But I got ahead this week and so here's a comic based on actual events between myself and Max, who makes me insanely jealous by understanding all the stuff I don't get in that class, but then like a good friend makes up for it by helping me get it when he's got time. Ah yes, and before anyone gets confused about the fourth panel, the dancing monkey doesn't count, he's a character in his own right, and he considers hurdy-gurdy work far beneath his performance standards.

The Commentary:
The comic I was GOING to post this week is still not done. I'm thinking of starting a new storyline involving the people I'm hanging out with now (last week's installment was the first in a series of sketchy tryouts of those characters). But I'm trying to do something mildly more creative than just talk about NaNo, as much as it is plaguing me... we won't even go into how many thousands of words behind I am right now. So it's still in the planning stages and YOU lucky guys get this filler instead, which is a definition for the word "glomp" in response to an online friend of mine, who is from a different culture and wondered what on earth it meant. And yeah, glomps are awesome, my friends and I use them liberally. Always let the people in your life know what they mean to you. By squishing them.

the commentary:
Well I can't say it's a very satisfying or artistic filler, but it is here. I'm sorry. School really is taking a bite out of me this semester, I may even have to go back to the once a week update schedule, but I'll try the new twice-weekly one for at least two weeks first, before I just give up on it. I am doing my best, though. And I won't ever give up! Even if I can only update once per week I solemnly swear BOS isn't going anywhere at least until the Shape of Legends story is done. And hopefully it will be going on much longer than that, and if I can just get some time and a little skill I'd like to even see both the site and the comic grow and improve. Yay!
Here we have cameo guest star, my friend Erin. She didn't actually remind me, I didn't forget, I just felt like drawing her. ^_^
Finally, I'm going to try and line up at least one guest artist so that there can be something up even on the weeks that my schoolwork won't let me do things myself.

the commentary:
I've had a tough time drawing up some of the things for The Fangirls. That, and I'll admit I've not given the comic much thought since Brendan broke up with me. :P So here's an oldie but goodie of mine, Buster, the Papillon. If you guys like this I can put up his first ever episode (ooh, ahh).

The Commentary:
OHMYGOSH IT'S BACK! That's right, I'm starting up the website again, though whether I'm going to keep it going as a comic or do something else with it is yet to be decided. I am not sure how the site will change or what the new schedule is going to be, so just keep checking back! Thanks to everyone who's ever read Bowl of Serial (or any of my stuff, for that matter) and special thanks to anyone who enjoyed it. I never got much feedback, but I love doing it anyway, and in the end, that's why I came back. Further notices or information will be posted here or on the LiveJournal.

The commentary:
So this comic is an inside joke between myself and my friend Tiffany. Only she will completely know what's going on exactly... er, and really, it's probably better that way. By the way Tiffany... DO THIS RIGHT NOW TODAY. OR BABY KITTENS WILL DIE. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY TIFFANY, THINK OF THE POOR KITTENS.

The Commentary:
Heh. It's funny because it's true. I used my sugar glider character and my boyfriend Jim's cat character to illustrate this. Mostly just because I like to draw them.

The
Commentary:
This was a lot of fun to
doodle up. I'm trying to get better with these little gesture drawings, just
'cause. Also, I love coffee. Delicious, wonderful coffee...

The commentary:
So today's comic was two HUGE panels, so sue me. Since I've been having a HUGE creative crisis, I figured it was warranted. I hope to be back in the swing soon, and updating BOS at least once a week, because of how much funjoy I used to get out of it. And it kept me writing, which I feel like I never do and can't seem to do anymore, when for years I wrote at least a little something almost every day. It's like a part of me is lost and I can't find it again... we'll see how things turn out. Wish me luck! I might need it.

The Commentary:
I took creative license on this one, both in the visual and mental representation of the characters. My boyfriend Jim is an artist, and has a hero character that he bases on himself and draws in a lot of different situations. But of course, the character isn't totally like him, because let's face it, drawing is all about the improbable situations and stuff you can't do outside of a pencil! Here's a silly sketch about what it would be like if we limited our imaginations to the real...
And of course, the damsel in distress is yours truly. Seriously, like I'm gonna let him have all the fun... if he gets to be the hero, I totally at least get to be the babe.
