Meet Fergus and Angus, the Cyber Cavies! Before I had Chloe I wasn't allowed to have real pigs, so I adopted these cute Guinea Pig images instead. Now they have a cozy little space on the 'net, and I have a bunch of pet cavies- sort of.
Why Fergus and Angus? Why not Spunky and Fluffy, or Aristotle and Bob? Ah, I will enlighten you, with the magical tale of two cavies who changed my life forever...
It all started
with Fergus...
There was once a dark day when I did not know of the wonders of cavies. I saw them at 4-H fairs, being set on a table and winning ribbons, but this told me nothing of their personality or their cuddliness. I knew little about them, only a vague notion (gleaned from a very brief meeting with a child's pet) that they smelled bad and made lots of noise.
Then came the job that changed it all. My summer position had ended. I needed to find a place to work during school. They were building a PetCo in my town, and I innocently filled out an application. I knew a lot about pets, and had worked with them many times before. Surely this would be no different from other experiences with them. Little did I know!
I often got to take care of the small animals. Little by little, I saw how cute and charming the guinea pigs were. Then I met Fergus and he got me hooked! Fergus was a pig in a million. He was a cutie, reddish-brown all over, except one little cowlick of white right in the middle of his forehead. Calmly he would sit in my hand, letting everyone pet him. He never tried to nip, but would give the most endearing little head-butts should you stop scratching behind his ears. I called him Fergus, a name I had recently decided I loved. I don't really know why except that it seemed to suit him. I knew I couldn't have him myself, so I made sure he was sold to a loving home. I was sorry to see him go, but glad for him to find a family.
Then came Angus...![]()
By this time I had seen lots of little piggies come and go. Then a new shipment came in- three very cute male babies. One was red and white; one was an eclectic mixture of browns, tans, and grays (a very handsome specimen, the first of this unusual coloring I had ever seen); and the other was all black and white splotches. I thought the black and white was the pick of the bunch, small and unbelievably cute. I was cuddling him and one of my coworkers remarked, "he looks just like a cow!" His markings were rather reminiscent of a Holstien, so I gave him the very bovine name of Angus (yet another breed of cow, for those of you who were never 4-H'ers!). Angus reminded me of the great Fergy- calm and cuddly. He sat snugly in the palm of my hand, remaining still and serene as long as there was a hand to keep rubbing his back. I don't know who bought him... I hope he is happy.
And that is the story of my initiation into the world of cavies. And the birth of the weird adventures of the Cyber Cavies!

Introducing: Chloe and Penelope!
Angus and Fergus were lonely, so I went and got a couple of "sowfriends" for them! They had no real-life counterparts to carve an identity from, so I've made up my own. Here they are, folks- Penelope and Chloe, the perfect little ladies to round off my guinea pig gang!
Penelope!
Penelope is the "senior sow" in the virtual hutch and Fergus' main squeeze! Because Fergus and Penelope are a few months older than the other cyber cavies, they are a little wiser, a little more laid back, and slightly less excitable. But still ready to have fun, and able popcorners! Penelope is sensible and caring, but also enjoys teasing the other cyber cavies now and again. Welcome aboard, Penelope!
Chloe!
Young, silly, and a wee bit shy, Chloe is the love of Angus' life. She's very sensitive and soft-spoken, but an active piggie who loves a good romp. Just don't get too rough or she'll squeal her head off! Angus defends her sensitive nature, making sure the other cyber cavies don't sit on her too much for it. We're glad you're joining us, Chloe!
Co-ed Cavy Capers!

The Name Game!
I was having a lot of trouble figuring out the perfect name for my recently acquired but much adored baby guinea pig. After a while my thoughts turned to this page. My cyber cavies were chosen for their resemblance to and named for a couple of real-life piggies. So why not name my real piggie (a girl) after the girls that I invented? Of course, she looks nothing like either image, but her personality is similar to the one I dreamed up for the fictional Chloe. So, my own little pigger is now named Chloe. Glee ensues and parsley is distributed all around! Yay for Chloe!

Story Time!
I had a lot of fun writing stories about the Cyber Cavies, back when the Fiction page was called Story of the Month, that's what I did every month, made a new story (illustrated with the sorts of pictures you see above) starring the Cyber Piggies. I'm going to try and resurrect some of the stories. I forget mostly what I wrote... I never saved them. Guess that was sort of silly. But, I have the pics, so I can probably reconstruct them with at least a pretty good amount of accuracy. Look for those soon!
A million thanks to Pastel for sharing her cute piggie images with the rest of us here in cyberland! She generously allows me to alter the original gifs into the little "adventures" you see on the page.
